Take a holiday in that perfect countryside retreat with a whole host of cottages, guesthouses, camp sites and caravan parks throughout the county. Each place offers it's own unique charm and warm welcome to give you a home from home and a perfect base for your stay. Edwinstowe and around Sherwood Forest The two main areas to find a country cottage or rural BB are the districts of Bassetlaw and Newark and Sherwood. These are full of attractive villages and market towns with a variety of cosy and welcoming places to stay. Although more urban, the Mansfield area also offers hotels close to the main country parks too. The village of Edwinstowe lies at the very heart of the forest given it's close proximity to Sherwood Forest Country Park. Here you'll find the Forest Lodge Hotel, Marion's Manor restaurant and St Mary's Church, the place where Robin and Marion were married. Other nearby places such as Wellow and Tuxford, allow you to stay in close proximity to Sherwood Forest, while towns like Southwell and Retford are attractive places to stay with easy access to all of the attractions too. South of Nottingham In the south of the county you’ll find historic landscapes around the picturesque Vale of Belvoir on the Nottinghamshire Leicestershire border. It’s easy to understand why this area is popular with walkers and nearby attractions such as Belvoir Castle and the National Water Sports Centre make this a good base for your holiday. Try Langar Hall, recently voted one of the county's top hotels and personally recommended by Sir Paul Smith himself, or take it easy at a self catering venue such as Woodview Cottages and if you want a uniquely styled BB, then somewhere like Primrose House is the place for you. Hidden valleys and treasures Along our western border with Derbyshire, the districts of Ashfield and Broxtowe offer a rich experience for your countryside retreat. With landscapes that were an inspiration for DH Lawrence, you can pick up the Teversal Trail, a network of picturesque bridleways perfect for walking, cycling and horse riding. Stay somewhere different You’ll be able to pick the perfect place to stay with our stay somewhere different 2008 guide. It includes holiday cottages, rural BB’s, camping and caravan parks, country hotels and more. You can order your FREE copy online or through Nottingham tourism centre on 08444 77 5678.
